Adrian is the proud son of Mexican immigrants. His parents began working in the agricultural workforce of the Salinas Valley in the late 70’s, with the hope of providing both he and his sister an opportunity to excel in life and academia. After graduating from the public school system, Adrian attended San Jose State University (SJSU), where he completed a B.A in Biology (2004) and subsequently a Master of Public Health (2007). He later returned to nursing school and trained as an advanced practice nurse at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) (2011-2015). While at UCSF, he was selected as one of the Madison Clinic Peggy Huang Diabetes Nurse Fellows in the School of Nursing.
Adrian is president of the Supernova Foundation, a non-profit he co-founded sixteen years ago which focuses on survivors of domestic violence and awards scholarships to students. In 2019 he received the Signature Award for Service from Northern California’s Kaiser Permanente Latinx Association (KPLA). In 2020, Adrian was recognized as a 2020 UCSF campaign Alumni Awardee in “The Pathfinders” category, as well as a “40 Under 40: Rising Nurse Leader” and completed a two-year term (2021-2023) as the UCSF Nursing Alumni Association President. Most recently, he co-founded the Society of Latinx Nurses (SOLN) in 2022 and is the inaugural president. SOLN is a national organization with a mission to increase diversity in the nursing workforce, while providing a safe space free of bullying and racism within the profession. On December 12th, 2025, Adrian had the distinct honor of being inducted as a fellow into the Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing (FADLN).
