Dr. Yogita Thakur trained as a dentist in India at the VYWS Dental College and Hospital (1991-1996). She received her Masters of Science in Dental Public Health at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. She then completed a fellowship at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Dentistry’s Centers to Address Disparities in Oral Health and obtained her certificate in Pediatric Dentistry at UCSF School of Dentistry and was chief resident. She was also a Clinical Scholar at UCSF’s School of Global Health from 2008-2010. Dr Thakur is a board-certified pediatric dentist and she maintains an active dental practice at Ravenswood seeing children and patients with special health care needs. She has held several leadership positions advocating for oral health access for families from low-income racial and ethnic minority communities and those with special healthcare needs. She has served on the Board of San Mateo Head Start and as chair of the California Primary Care Association Dental Directors Peer Network. She is currently a board member of the National Network for Oral Health Access and on the Dental Board of California. She led the creation of the first-ever Oral Health Strategic Plan for San Mateo County in 2015. Dr. Thakur is a member of the California Dental Association, American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and California Society of Pediatric Dentistry. In her free time, she likes to read, cook, hike, and enjoy the outdoors.
