Grant Development Specialist

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Development, Planning & Evaluation, the Grant Development Specialist is responsible for grant prospecting; writing grant proposals and reports; keeping track of grant life cycles; and helping RFHN maintain strong relationships with potential and existing funders.

POSITION SUMMARY            

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Development, Planning & Evaluation, the Grant Development Specialist is responsible for grant prospecting; writing grant proposals and reports; keeping track of grant life cycles; and helping RFHN maintain strong relationships with potential and existing funders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Prospecting:

  • Conduct grant research through searching online, regularly monitoring listservs, attending networking events either remotely or in-person when it is safe to do so (includes events during evenings), etc.
  • Cold calling and cold emailing new potential funders
  • Identify new potential funders
  • Set up calls and meetings with new potential funders for Chief Executive Officer, Development Director, directors, managers, etc.

Grant Proposal Writing:

  • Meet with RFHN’s directors, managers, and staff involved in grant funded programs to gather the necessary information for grant proposal writing
  • Work closely with Decision Support Department to gather the necessary data for proposal writing
  • Write and package grant proposals (narrative, budget, scope of work, etc.)

Grant Reporting for Awarded Grants:

  • Regularly check-in with key persons involved in grant funded programs to help monitor project progress, deliverables, and timeline
  • Write reports for grant funded programs, including meeting with RFHN’s directors, managers, and staff regarding progress of grant funded programs and working with RFHN’s data department to generate data for reports
  • Maintain and update funder database in a timely manner, which includes processing grant checks, generating thank you letters, informing Finance Department and Contracts Department, etc.
  • Attend grantee conferences, workshops, meetings, etc. (includes evenings)

Other:

  • Special projects and other duties, such as fundraising events, as assigned/requested by the Director of Development, Planning and Evaluation.
  • Provide responsive, professional customer service to funders, donors, members of the press, public officials, partner organizations, etc., including satisfying requests for information and coordinating meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience with writing grants
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and highly organized
  • Ability to handle work and pressure in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to work flexible hours (nights and weekends) as needed
  • Skilled in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work well independently and with a team
  • Clean DMV, insurance
